WHY
Feedback from the 2022 National Conference surfaced a need to:

> To experience the personal encouragement, connect with others of like-mind, and access the specialized equipping that Mosaix delivers to ministry leaders, more than once every three years.

For this reason, these events are scheduled to take place on Saturdays.

THEME
In sailing, tacking is a maneuver used by mariners to keep a ship moving when winds have shifted from back to front and it’s otherwise unable to make forward progress. Similarly, cultural winds have shifted in our lifetime and for all intent and purposes our boat, the collective witness of the church, seems dead in the water. Why? In part because church sails remain fixed for past winds while ministry leaders wait in hope they’ll soon again shift. But they won’t. Those days are gone. We are no longer sailing with the wind at our backs... Cultural winds are against us. In order to advance the gospel, the local church, and the kingdom of God in this day and age as well as in years to come we need now to swing the boom. Indeed, we must tack to the wind. And that's what these events are all about.

WORKSHOPS A (Morning, 10:45a - 11:50a) Bernard Emerson, Toby Kurth, Jonatan Alarcon, Rachelle Ditmore & Ray Chang

Values & Cultural Practices for Co-leading Healthy Multiracial Churches (Bernard Emerson)
Explore essential values and cultural practices for effective co-leadership in multiracial churches. Learn strategies to honor diverse traditions while fostering unity and collaboration. This session offers practical tools for navigating cultural differences while building a unified, thriving community.

Creating an Invitation to the Front Porch of God’s House (Rachelle Ditmore)
Explore how to build trust and foster relationships across cultures in urban, multicultural settings. Think of it as an invitation to God's Front Porch, something special that we do at City of Refuge in Oak Park, a multiethnic community. This workshop will cover intentional invitations to mission, the art of listening through "3-story evangelism," and reimagining the Kingdom's impact. Learn how churches can nurture family, promote economic diversity, and extend relational invitations to all.

City as Liturgy: The Death and Life of Cities (Toby Kurth)
In this session, we will explore the role of imagination in urban renewal through the insights of Jane Jacobs and other leading city theorists. Jacobs’ observation, “We expect too much of new buildings, and too little of ourselves,” challenges us to see cities not merely as physical spaces but as communities shaped by the people who inhabit them. Drawing on the Christian understanding of theological anthropology, we will reflect on how churches can offer a robust and hopeful vision for the redemption of both people and cities. Churches have a unique role in this process as communities of transformation. They are not only places of worship but also catalysts for renewal—both spiritual and social—within urban environments.

WORKSHOPS B (Afternoon, 1:10p-2:15p)
Mark DeYmaz, Susie Gamez, Chris Davis, Sarah Ashley Hill & Kyle Brooks

Speaking Truth in a Divided World  (Susie Gamez)
Most believers would say that it is important (and biblical) to “speak the truth in love.” But many churches/leaders have opted to avoid potentially divisive topics rather than leaning into them. In this workshop will discuss the dangers of avoidance and encourage a more meaningful prophetic witness.

Being in the Boat Together (Sarah Ashley Hill)
As individuals, we have varied experiences with self-efficacy and safety. Adverse and traumatic life events in the past impact how people see themselves and how they interact with diverse others in the present. In this workshop, Dr. Hill will discuss common maladaptive interpersonal patterns and compassionate, trauma-informed responses to help us navigate cross-cultural relationships and build safe, loving community.

Leading While White: 10 Things Every White Leader in a Multiracial Church Needs to Know (Kyle Brooks)
Whether you are a lead pastor, staff member or lay leader in a multiracial church, being White presents various limitations, opportunities, challenges, and privileges that need to be stewarded well. Come to learn how you or someone on your team can effectively lead in multiracial ministry while White.
